Men Do Have Babies: Challenging Outdated Gender Roles 💡👶🏾

What defines masculinity and femininity? What makes someone a man or a woman beyond the biological markers that doctors and scientists use for medical care and research? 🏥⚕️ For as long as civilization has existed, there have been individuals who blur the lines between these constructed definitions—men who display highly feminine traits and women who embody what society deems masculine. The attempt to classify people solely based on their body parts has always been a flawed system, a construct that continues to be challenged and overturned generation after generation. 🔄

Peach McIntyre: The Provider & The Mother 🏡💰

Take, for example, the internet personality Peach McIntyre, a mother of nine 👶🏾 and the primary income provider for her family. Her husband, Wood, plays the role that society often assigns to women—handling much of the hands-on childcare. Many observers call this a “role reversal,” but is it really? Or is it simply the case that Peach exhibits characteristics that have traditionally been labeled as masculine? 💪🏾 Why should financial provision be a masculine trait? Why should nurturing and childcare be seen as feminine? 👀

Kris Jenner: The Ultimate Boss Mom 🕶️📈

Another example is Kris Jenner, the powerhouse behind one of the most famous families in the world. With six children who have become highly successful in their own right, Kris has long been defined as a “masculine woman” due to her leadership, business acumen, and commanding presence. Recently, she has even been wearing outfits with ties 👔—something small but noticeable in how she is perceived. But why does a simple wardrobe choice reinforce outdated ideas about gender roles? 🤔

Bessie Smith: A Force Before Her Time 🎶🔥

Then there’s Bessie Smith, as portrayed by Queen Latifah in the biopic Bessie. A bold and unapologetic force in the early blues scene, Bessie was both a businesswoman and a creative powerhouse. She was known for dating both men and women, and the film depicted moments of her chaotic childhood that may have contributed to her drive for control. That same need for control can be seen in Peach McIntyre, who has also given glimpses into her unstable upbringing. Both women created their own destinies and refused to conform to the expectations placed upon them. 🛑🚫

Breaking the Construct: Why Do These Ideas Still Exist? 🤯💭

These women—and many others like them—prove why rigid constructs of gender and power are not just outdated but were fundamentally flawed from the start. And yet, they persist. The only reason I can see for their existence is to provide an upper hand to those who created them. The real question is: why do these constructs still hold power when history has shown time and time again that they do not reflect reality? 🤨
